VICTIM'S RIGHTS
After many years working on the streets for Knox County Sheriff’s Office, I have seen every type of crime that can be broken from public intoxication to the most violent felony crimes. Because I’m in court on a regular basis, I have watched with frustration as laws in place often favor or protect the rights of the offender. The emotional impact on families and victims during this time is often heart-breaking. It’s difficult to watch as adults who victimize young children are allowed to return to our streets as a repeat offender after victimizing our children and citizens. I stand ready to challenge laws that continue to support criminals over victims.
During my 13 years experience in law enforcement, I have arrested many offenders in our community who were participating in criminal activities and rampages through our neighborhoods. Our laws are the best in the world, but there are laws that favor the offender of a criminal over victims.
TOUGHER JAIL SENTENCES FOR VIOLENT CRIME OFFENDERS/DRUG ABUSERS & DEALERS
NO NEW TAXATION AND CONTROLLED SPENDING
I am 100% against a state income tax and will support Union, Campbell and Tennessee citizens to prevent any proposed legislation threatening to impose any new or inflated taxes at the expense of our citizens. Tennesseans are already taxed in excess.
GET A GRIP ON HEALTHCARE
We need to get a grip on healthcare and what drives the costs through the roof. I believe that every Tennessean should have excellent healthcare. For this reason, I will work to support and establish legislation that will address issues such as intentional emergency room abuse by violators who visit emergency rooms for non-emergencies.
OUR CHILDREN AND EDUCATION
Supporting our educators with the tools they require will empower our children to meet the demands of tomorrow’s technologies and industries. There are so many variables with educating children. I believe that each child has a unique contribution to make to the world and that our schools can customize an approach for each individual child. For this reason, I will work with educators to make sure we are prepared to meet these new challenges.
I believe that providing a structured, fun, healthy, safe and creative environment are key to the success of every child and that every child has unique abilities that will contribute to our world when a teacher sees the potential. I believe that teachers have to be equipped to not only evaluate children through grade point averages, but through personality and creative cues. I also believe that as parents, educators and adults, we have to allow children to be children and this belief must be the center of every teaching curriculum.
HIGH ETHICAL STANDARDS FOR THOSE IN PUBLIC OFFICE OR PUBLIC SERVICE
People who are holding public offices or are employed in government service are called to a great responsibility to be accountable to those who elect and/or entrust them to serve. The only approach to keeping corruption and ethic abuse eliminated is by eliminating the ‘corruptible’ who were hired or entrusted by the public to perform their service on behalf of tax-paying citizens. I will support and uphold legislation to hold government entities to the highest standard by requiring that those found in violation of the public trust be charged with criminal penalties.
Office holders and people in charge of caring for our children need to go through stricter background checks and uphold certain standards of conduct while employed by the state. I believe in protecting our children and our future, we must uphold laws that offer a no-tolerance public ethics policy in regards to employees working as public official or his/her designee in the state of Tennessee.
COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENTS
I believe that the backbone of great communities lies in its ability to provide adequate community services such as community centers and Libraries for our children and senior population. I will support Union and Campbell counties by working with its leadership in implementing more healthy activities in safe environments for our seniors and children.
WORKING TO MAINTAIN COMMUNITY SERVICES
Having funding and compliance for organizations that save and preserve life is vital to maintaining a growing community. I will work with local government and community organizations to ensure that compliances and infrastructure are in place to maintain an excellent level of services. I will support legislation that ensures a high grade of emergency services in Union and Campbell counties.
I believe programs such as E-911 is the life support of our communities. E-911 is an example of a state program that is funded through the joint effort of the state of Tennessee and local counties. In its infancy, E-911 has been vulnerable and since its inception, has become the life support of our community. With its services, the citizens of Union and Campbell counties have a higher degree of security.
